X-SESSION

This workshop explores the processes involved in developing credible, precise, and inhabited characters with a bias towards the video games and animation markets. Video games and animation covers a wide variety of range from the High Octane Epic to “Kitchen Sink” Realism. The workshop focuses on the immediate creation, forcing your creative juices in a time-constrained environment. No time to agonize over choices : you have to act in the "Hic et Nunc", the Here and Now.

The industry tends to “pigeon hole” actors and casting directors tend to cast talent in “safe” parts. The result is that we seldom get to explore and stretch our acting range. The casting net for interactive entertainment is getting wider and, contrary to commonly held beliefs, one does not have to be based in LA to work in this field.

This “safe place” workshop aims to explore and train the very particular set of muscles and thought processes involved in creating characters. It will introduce the basics of the “String Theory” and “stepping” techniques. Through improvisation and borrowing from various methods and systems, you will move relentlessly from character to character, from emotion to emotion and from genre to genre, building your confidence to create “impromptu” characters and improving your control of the process. Get ready to step.

  • Better understanding of the director expectations
  • Better understanding of character development techniques
  • Understanding of the process from side to studio
